A thirsty person knows the value of a drop of water. So, the issue cannot be ignored, even in the remotest part of the Himalayas where wells cannot be drilled. People there also need safe drinking water. The high mortality rate of native people drinking unfiltered water from a river became our topmost priority to share our love and concern. When we heard that many children and older people are suffering from water-borne diseases and unable to receive proper medical treatments, we decided to prevent the issue with an easy, yet impactful remedy, using water filters.

The water filter we provided works in three steps:

1. The large internal surface area physically traps sediments and contaminants.
2. Activated carbon acts like a magnet for lead and volatile organic compounds as water passes through.
3. Chemical reactions inside the filter reduce chemicals on contact.

We believe this will reduce the high mortality rate and prevent sicknesses due to contaminated water.

Pastor S says, “Because of contaminated water, many believers suffer from different diseases and cannot visit the church regularly. In addition, children become sick and unable to attend school. My family and I have suffered from amebiasis, hepatitis, and gastroenteritis. Unfortunately, due to a lack of proper health services, we must endure the sickness and treat it through home-based medicines with a high risk of side effects.

But thanks to all our carers for these urgent and timely gifts. These water filters will help us filter water and drink safe water. These water filters have spread the love of Christ and glorified heaven today.”

Sukumaya Praja is a divorced mother of three children. She had a love marriage at an early age. However, her relationship did not work out with her husband due to his extramarital affairs and drinking habits. Moreover, he did not accept keeping the children with him and sponsoring them due to his inappropriate behaviour. It was too risky to leave children in such a drunkard’s hand.

The lack of parental support and education prevented Sukumaya from filing a case and claiming any of her husband’s property. Her parents asked her to marry another man and resume her happy life but that would have meant leaving her three children. So, she decided to live independently and look after her kids by herself.

However, the lack of education was a significant barrier to advancing her career. Due to her young age, she wanted to continue her study and do something unique from other women in her poor community. Washing dishes, clothes, cleaning houses, and working in restaurants are the only available basic options for someone like her from such a family background.

She says, “Fortunately, I had known Jesus and decided to be loyal to my children. Going to church regularly and daily prayer have brought a ray of hope in my life.”

As soon as we announced the opening of another sewing centre in West Nepal, she was very excited. She said, “Pastor, my happiness has no limitation now. I was uncertain about what I could do for the future. I had no good jobs that would let me independently support my family. The grace of the Lord has given me the confidence to become independent. I want to open my own sewing business and help many women to live independently. The sewing centre project is a most needed plan for many underprivileged, oppressed, and discriminated native communities like us. I am willing to give my best to learn to sew clothes and earn independently. My sincere regards, appreciation, and thanks to all God’s beloved men and women for caring about us.”

Harka Bahadur is 69 years old man with severe bone cancer causing him persistent bone pain, swelling, and redness. He had been fighting the pain for years and could not work correctly. Unfortunately, due to poverty, he could not afford the medical treatments. He gave up on his pain and accepted to die in his old days with the disease.

Someone like Harka, coming from the Tharu community, is steadfast in their beliefs of their native Hindu gods and goddesses. It is challenging to share Gospel with them and invite them to God’s kingdom. But just as the Bible says, all knees must bow before His name; all mouths must speak His praises. Harka’s sickness prompted him to bow before Jesus. The countless and commendable efforts of our native missionaries brought him to the church. He gradually became accustomed to coming to church and becoming acquainted with the other brothers. He noticed some relief in his bones and ligaments. He started experiencing comfort in his joints. Our leaders continuously prayed over him, staying fasting and comforting him. The care and prayer finally received a glorious answer.

People could not have imagined that prayers and believers’ love could heal a severe illness like cancer. But everything is possible in God (Matthew 19:26). Today, his new life has elicited many Tharus to come to Christ and submit their lives to Him. Because of his healing, the number of believers has increased. His entire family, relatives, and villagers have accepted Jesus. Praises to the Lord.

Now, I can see trouble is always trouble until we see it from God’s perspective. God did not give Harka that disease, but He did use as a way to save many lives in Him. Harka Bahadur is incredibly happy today and claims to serve the Lord with all his life. The Himalayas are experiencing many powerful testimonies. May I thank our beloved partners and native missionaries for their countless efforts, prayers, support, and commitment. May God bless the reader abundantly.

Meena Kariya always wanted to read and write. She believes that a family is educated if the mother is educated. However, education was and is never an option in her most conservative community. People prioritize early marriage and sustaining daily lives. She falls into such a native uneducated community that believes if they survive the day, that is their most significant achievement.

But the story changed when people started knowing Jesus; thus, visiting the church and attending house churches became regular practices. Believers such as Meena wanted to read the Bible and run fellowships by themselves. Although education is a crucial necessity in today’s society, schooling is the rarest opportunity in the native communities of the Himalayas. However, there is a well-known saying in the Nepali community that the moustache does not stop the mouth from eating. In other words, age is never an excuse while there is a willingness to study.

Dear partners, we are delighted to inform you that we have initiated adult literacy training in the Himalayas to gather people, help them read and write, and talk about Jesus. The six days of classes in a week are conducted in the evening as this is the most suitable time for them to study. The classes last for six months. The adult literacy training includes learning the Nepali alphabet, Bible study, and prayer.

Meena says, “I can’t believe I am learning to read and write at this age. Yes! Indeed, dreams do come true. I always wanted to read and write so I could assist my children in their studies. I wished I could read Bible verses in the regular church service, run house fellowships, understand updated government policies, vote for local government, be a responsible citizen, acknowledge the present generation’s demand for our children’s benefit, and so on. I am so happy that our church is initiating such crucial training. Also, I believe that every believer must be educated to combat persecution. I am thankful to all the graceful men and women for considering such an essential program and loving our community.”

It is a great joy that we have successfully planted another community water well in West Nepal. Many people now use this well to get the clean, “sweet” water it gives. Some come from great distances. There are so many different stories that surround the water pots brought here. Villagers come with a water pot of anxiety, turmoil, threats, fear, confusion, family issues, medical issues, and many more. As they see the scripture engraved in the slate stone above the tap, they first feel the presence of the Lord. Believers show their love and concern to each other and non-believers as well. They share their stories and offer moral support to one another. As the believers at the well share their experiences, non-believers are exposed to the Gospel in a loving and caring atmosphere. Believers and non-believers alike return to their homes with their water pots filled with clean water and their hearts filled with new hopes, vision, excitement, care, and beliefs.

The water well has not just satisfied the thirst but fulfilled the great commission of the Lord Jesus. The well is not only a public drinking source, but it has acted as a source of love, purity, and concern-sharing connection.

One of our native missionaries asked, “Pastor, this might sound stupid, but I always wondered what if Jesus had a means of transportation such as a cycle in His times?”

Ps. R replied, “That’s not stupid but logical. He could surely double His ministry.”

Ps. C added, “Yes! Any means of transportation can ease the stress of walking and increase our missionary outreach. That is the purpose of a cycle. Means of transportation such as the cycle is not for the desire for comfort and ease but the basic need for missionaries like us to reach our destination on time. We become exhausted as we get to the fellowships by walking; our physical energy almost gets drained, and we cannot give our best in sharing powerful scriptures. We require some break, and most of all, we must return home late.”

Ps. R said, “True, Pastor. Last time, I was very far away evangelizing and sharing the Gospel. It was 4 hours away by walk from here. But then, my wife suddenly called me and said my younger son had swallowed a coin and was choking. So then, I faced a quandary: what should I do? I paused for a while and asked God to lead my situation. I prayed, “God, I am working here for you. Would you please take care of my son at my home?” Then, I called my relative and asked him to help my family with the situation. And I continued evangelizing. Thanks to the Lord, my son was okay after taking him to the hospital. Thanks to the Lord, I found him just as I had left him when I returned home.”

Dear partners, your generosity in helping them with the cycle is not just a means of comforting them during their travel but fulfilling their basic needs and securing their personal life. Your kindness means a lot to their problems. In addition, it has aided in reducing their family burdens and fulfilling their desires to minister for God simultaneously. One of our native missionaries, Ps. S from the remote Bankariya tribe has a tragic story. Ps. S says, “Pastor, I remember that day when I was in a very stressful situation of my life. As a man, especially as a responsible Dad of a house, it is always challenging for us to handle multiple situations. Responsibility binds us everywhere. I was at the funeral of one of our believers in the remotest village of our locality. I had reached there, traveling early in the morning. I was sharing words of condolence and consolation with the bereaved family, talking through the Bible. Then, I received news that my mother had passed away at home and had asked for me in her last breath. It was such tragic news for me that I now needed consolation words.

That was a very tough moment for me. The Words of God coming out of my mouth were not only for everyone there but for myself as well. So, I had to keep myself together and be brave in that situation. So, I began praying deep inside.

Unfortunately, it would take me an entire day to travel home. Although I reached home late and saw my mother’s body, I wished I could hear her voice for the last time. I wished she could have seen me for the last time. I wished I had a motorcycle to come home early that day.”

Dear partners, the turmoil and harrowing situation our native missionaries go through is beyond explanation. But, as Jesus said to follow Him, leaving everything behind, our brothers have sacrificed many things and responsibilities to multiply God’s kingdom and outreach to the most unreached places of the Himalayas.

Family is a gift from God; it is our duty to preserve and cherish it. Your generosity in helping them with a motorcycle is the most compelling concern you have bestowed in their lives. With this support, they can multiply God’s work and fulfil their responsibilities and duties simultaneously. May God bless you from His mighty abundance.

I am delighted to let you know that we have successfully planted another well of life in the furthest region of Nepal. The locality has always been grieving for clean drinking water. Water scarcity would let them travel miles and consume their time and energy. The drilled water well in the centre of the locality has attracted many villagers with the love of God. As everyone knew, RHMI was the maker of the well. They questioned more about RHMI and found out that the believers of the local church are the first to express their love and care for their native community. Villagers were filled with joy to know someone was there to love and care for them. Now, the well has become a means of evangelizing people and sharing the news of eternity in heaven.

Shraddha Chaudhary said, “I always had to set aside a single day to fetch water from a stream very far away. In addition, it would be dirty, and I had to boil it before drinking it. Furthermore, my ten-year-old son was hospitalized for over two weeks due to a water-borne illness. This has always been a serious matter in our locality. Of course, hospitalization would not be an issue if we had enough money and better services. However, we remain helpless without the intervention of any outside support, as problems always surround us. But thanks to the Lord and those kind hearts who have shown their care for us. This well has incredibly blessed us.”

This year in West Nepal there has been insufficient rain and very, very hot. The shallow hand-dug wells in the villages are drying up. We are grateful the wells drilled by RHMI are still providing clean, sweet water for the villagers. They are so happy!

Mamata is a 22-year-old sister responsible for looking after her family. I cannot imagine a fatherless young girl looking after her whole family at such an early age. She quit her studies due to the sad condition of her family. She works in the town in a restaurant, fulfilling the monthly expenses of her mother’s medicine, her younger brother’s studies, their debts, and rent. She is among the many people who suffer from such tragic life stories.

As I believe in teaching people to fish is more important than feeding them with the fish, a sewing machine is the most effective strategy we have applied to support many sisters in the Himalayas. So, we are delighted to inform you that we have successfully established five new sewing machine centres in various locations this month.

Mamata said, “Pastor, I have shared my story with you. It felt like I shared my story and grief with God. He has listened to my cries and shown me a pathway to start something new. I cannot travel miles to work for so little and yet save nothing. Paul’s Corner has given me a ray of hope and confidence in doing something great for my family. I want to be an entrepreneur, opening my own tailor shop, sewing new clothes, and selling them in the market.

I must take care of my sick mother and pay my family’s debts. I want to see my brother studying and becoming an educated missionary for God. Hopefully, I can fulfil my dream shortly. I believe if we do our best, God takes care of the rest. We are grateful to all the generous men and women of God for giving us the confidence so we can do something on our own.”

Dear partners, your generosity has enlightened the confidence in the young sisters like Mamata. It has not only filled them with joy but provided them the source to become independent and self-reliant to be a stronger woman. This is what I call empowering sisters through the love of God. Many times, people believe and engage faster through vision than hearing. We have distributed projectors to our native missionaries to take advantage of this human fact. We have already recorded many testimonies and incidents where people have instantly converted, wept, repented, and submitted their lives to Jesus as they have watched Christian movies and films about Jesus. Also, people of any age can watch and easily relate to the Christian movie’s meaning. We are witness to the unbelievable miracles that have occurred during the movie showtime. Furthermore, it is also one of many ways to bring a crowd altogether.

The small yet handy projector we provide is easy to operate and carry. It is also a 3-minute setup that saves time and overcomes many technical difficulties. We know that users and audiences find it unappealing when technical errors take a long time to get fixed. But, thanks to our generous partners who have helped us, we have been able to provide our missionaries with a powerful yet simple to operate tool. The projectors are utilized to show Nepali Christian movies and evangelize vast numbers of people effectively.
