Everything We Need Is In Us Part 2
Last week we saw in His Word, the Bible, how everything we need is already within us. We also looked at two of the Lord’s exceedingly great and precious promises. Review 2 Peter 1:3-4 with us:
2 Peter 1:3-4 3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.
This week let’s look at two more of His promises.
- No More Curse, We Are Blessed
- The Holy Spirit
Through these promises we are partakers of His divine nature.
1.No More Curse, We Are Blessed
God made a promise to Abraham that still applies to us today. Hebrews 6 shows us how the blessings that God promised Abraham are ours as well. The full story of Abraham is found in Genesis, but the writer of Hebrews sums it up for us.
Hebrews 6:13-14 13 For when God made a promise to Abraham, because He could swear by no one greater, He swore by Himself, 14 saying, “Surely blessing I will bless you, and multiplying I will multiply you.”
We know God cannot lie. We see in Genesis how He blessed Abraham and how He multiplied Abraham. The words that He swore to Abraham were not just for Abraham. They were for us as well. God wanted to end all of our doubt or unbelief.
Hebrews 6:17 Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath,
God wanted to make the unchanging nature of his purpose very clear to the heirs of what was promised, so He confirmed it with an oath.” Galatians 3:13-14 confirms to us that we have the blessing of Abraham:
Galatians 3:13-14 13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, “Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree”), 14 that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.
Jesus was cursed in our place. He ended the curse that was on our lives. He took the curse so that we can take the blessings.
Through our union with Jesus Christ, the mystery of the gospel is revealed. We Gentiles are joint heirs, participants of His promise.
Ephesians 3:6 that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers of His promise in Christ through the gospel,
By believing in Jesus we are now all called sons and daughters of God.
Galatians 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus.
We are Jesus Christ’s. We belong to Him. He paid the ransom for us. And because of our belief in Jesus Christ, we are Abraham’s seed, heirs of the promise.
Galatians 3:29 And if you are Christ’s, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
We inherit all of the promises of the kingdom realm!
2.The Holy Spirit
As we read in Galatians 3:14, we have the promise of the Spirit.
The gift of the Holy Spirit is the promise for everyone who believes in Jesus. Peter, on the day of Pentecost when the 120 received the Holy Spirit, preached this to the crowd that had gathered:
Acts 2:38-39 38 Then Peter said to them, “Repent, and let every one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God will call.”
The Apostle Paul tells us in Ephesians 1 that we were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise:
Ephesians 1:13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,
An owner seals the titles of his property with his signet ring to mark it as his. That is recognized as the official copy of the document or of the finished transaction. In ancient Egypt, the Pharaoh gave Joseph his signet ring when he made Joseph second over all Egypt. The transaction was finished. Joseph was second in command. He had the signet ring. He had the seal to prove it.
The seal of God’s covenant with Abraham was circumcision. But now we see the seal of the new covenant is not external. It is internal with the Holy Spirit imprinted on our hearts.
Ephesians 1:14 who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
The Holy Spirit is God’s guarantee to us that He will accomplish all that He has promised. The Holy Spirit is God’s down payment to us that one day we shall be with Him in heaven and possess glorified bodies.
2 Corinthians 1:22 who also has sealed us and given us the Spirit in our hearts as a guarantee.
We have the witness of the Spirit within us. We have the witness of the Word before us. Both of these guarantee that God will keep His promises. His contract is with us and He will save us to the very end.
We partake of His divine nature. We are heirs of His promises, sons and daughters of God. We are sealed by His Holy Spirit. We are identified as His and protected by His holy stamp on our hearts. The Holy Spirit in us is God’s down payment to us that He will fulfill His promises.
As 2 Peter 1:4 tells us, His exceedingly great and precious promises allow us to be participants of His divine nature. God has made so many promises to us in His Word. These are just four of them that we talked about last week and this week.
Divine Life-Jesus Reconciles Us with the Father
Divine Rest-Jesus Replaces Inner Turmoil and Unrest with Calm and Peace
Divine Blessings-Jesus Redeemed Us from the Curse
Divine Holy Spirit-Jesus Ascension to Heaven Brought Us the Helper, the Comforter
Through Jesus, we are participating in His divine nature as we experience His promises. We are spiritually and physically strengthened and our trust in Him and our hope grows in His promises. We live in His divine nature every day! Now and forever!
If you are a believer, you should be celebrating God’s divine nature that gives us these precious promises!
If you are not a believer but want to experience the divine nature of God, pray this prayer with me:
“Dear God, I believe Jesus is my Lord my Savior. I repent of my sinful ways and want to serve you. Fill me with your peace. Give me your divine nature. From this day forward, I will follow Jesus. Guide my life and help me to do your will. I pray this in the name of Jesus. Amen.”
Let us know if you prayed this prayer. We care about you. We love you.
