Everything We Need Is In Us Part 1

We all want God’s favor and peace in our lives. When we are in relationship with the Lord, He imparts His grace and peace to us. To people that do not know the Lord, that seems unnatural.

So, how do we get that grace and peace?

There is a way we can get them and even have them multiplied to us!

2 Peter 1:2 Grace and peace be multiplied to you in the knowledge of God and of Jesus our Lord,

There is the answer. We get it through the knowledge of God and Jesus Christ. Peter also tells us in verse 3, that the Lord has given us everything we need.

2 Peter 1:3 as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godlinessthrough the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,

When we know God and Jesus Christ intimately, we know and understand the wonderful promises that have been given us. We even participate in His divine nature as He is in us.

2 Peter 1:4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Peter was saying that everything we need comes through knowledge of Jesus. That’s because He has already given us everything we could ever need when we are born again. We don’t need to get something new. We just need a revelation of what we already have in Christ.

Faith is already present within us.

Galatians 5:22-23 22 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, 23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

The Spirit within us will cause us to bear all of those fruits including peace and faith.

Prosperity is already given.

2 Corinthians 9:8 And God is able to make all grace abound toward you, that you, always having all sufficiency in all things, may have an abundance for every good work.

Healing has already been deposited on the inside of us.

1 Peter 2:24 who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness — by whose stripes you were healed

We have the same raising-from-the-dead power that raised Jesus from the dead.

Ephesians 1:19-20 19 and what is the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of His mighty power 20 which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places,

We don’t need any more power. We have the power of God! That is resurrection power!

We have everything we need for life and for godliness. It is inside of us. All other religions say we have to struggle, to work hard to earn inner peace and enlightenment. But we walk in God’s unmerited, undeserved favor and His rest and peace works inside of us. It bubbles up within us until it just naturally flows out of us to others.

We saw in 2 Peter 1:4 that we have been given exceedingly great and precious promises. Let’s look at some of those “exceedingly great and precious promises.” Look at 2 Peter 1:4 again:

2 Peter 1:4 by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

The Lord has given us many promises in His Word. We will look two of them today:

  1. Eternal Life
  2. Entering Into His Rest

Through these promises we are partakers of the divine nature. What is the nature of God? And what is the nature of Jesus Christ?

1.Eternal Life

One of the things we see is God and His Son are eternal. And They promise believers eternal life!

1 John 2:25 And this is the promise that He has promised us — eternal life.

We will be eternal. We will live forever. And forever is a very long time!

In 1 Timothy 4:8, Paul tells Timothy we have the promise of the life to come. But, in addition to that, he also tells us we have the life we are living right now on this earth

1 Timothy 4:8 For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

We have the enjoyment of peace and happiness through Jesus Christ while we are in this life. King David asks an important question of us in Psalms 34:12:

Psalms 34:12 Who is the man who desires life, And loves many days, that he may see good?

Our answer is, “We all do.” That promise of the now life from God provides us with everything that is necessary for life. There are many Scriptures that promise this. Let’s look at two.

Psalms 23:1 The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.

Philippians 4:19 And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

2.Entering Into His Rest

We find another promise the Lord gives us in Hebrews 4:1

Hebrews 4:1 Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it.

Entering into His rest is resting in Him, ceasing from self-labor. It is not to stay in bed all day, refusing to have a job, and being irresponsible. It is the rest that occurs when you take your eyes off of yourself and stop trying to earn God’s blessings.

Hebrews 4:9-10 9 There remains therefore a rest for the people of God. 10 For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.

That rest you experience when you believe He Himself is doing His work in you and through you. It is a rest given to you, even while you are doing all you should be doing. It is the rest of faith.

We get this straight from Jesus while He was here on earth:

Matthew 11:28-30 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.  30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.”

The rest Jesus speaks of is a rest, an inward calm while one performs necessary labor. It speaks to quietness, to recreate, to refresh and to renew. While we are going about our daily lives we can be refreshed and renewed in our minds and our hearts, even though we may be working real hard physically.

When we look at these two promises from God; 1. Eternal life, our needs being met in this life and a life in eternity, and 2. to live in His rest that calms our inner being and refreshes us, we see the divine nature that we are participating in.

If you do not have that peace and rest in your hear nor doyou know Jesus personally, pray this prayer with me: “Jesus, I need You. I believe You are the Son of God. I turn from my sinful ways and follow You. Fill my life with Your rest and peace and calmness. I accept that promise of eternal life with You. Amen.”

Congratulations, you are saved! Today, you are starting on the first day of living with Jesus to guide you. Write and tell us about your experience.
