There are nations in South Asia that are devastated by annual floods, earthquakes, droughts, tsunamis, and cyclones that strike suddenly and without warning. They cause great destruction and despair, threaten people's lives, and destroy their livelihoods.
When relief funds are released, most of it is received by those living in populated cities or large suburbs; aid rarely finds its way into rural and isolated regions of the country. The survivors often struggle to survive the aftermath or are unable to rebuild their homes and communities.
